Absurd - Der Kaiser in dem Berge

Der Kaiser in dem Berge” is not a new album by Absurd, but a collection of previously unreleased songs from the band’s first phase, in which Dark Mark Doom was solely responsible for music and lyrics.

After Doom decided to stop the band in 1999, it seemed for a long time that these songs were lost to the public.

It was all the more important to close this gap. The album, recorded in 2023, now consists of songs by Doom that we have kept as true to the original as possible, as well as three new compositions.

In addition, here is a statement from Doom:

“The Emperor in the Mountain” was written in 1996 and 1997, when I was still in prison. Out of a longing to be far away from everything modern, I read many old legends and scientific treatises about Emperor Frederick I, known as Barbarossa.

Driven by the desire for a resurrection of that bygone era, I translated this longing into music and lyrics and created “Der Kaiser in dem Berge" (The Emperor in the Mountain).

I wrote the lyrics and composed the music (except for the passages that Unhold added) to pay homage to the Kyffhäuser and to join in the wish of the old Germans that in these miserable times the Emperor would return with sword and army from his long sleep in the mountains to lead the people into a better future.

Music for songs 2, 4 and 5, as well as all lyrics were composed and written by DM Doom, in the period 1996 – 1997.

Music for songs 1 and 3 was composed and written by Unhold.
